OCTOBER 6, 2021, WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pro-Israel America (PIA) and Pro-Israel America PAC, the largest bipartisan pro-Israel PAC in the country, designated 30 congressional endorsements for 2022 as “key races.” These important elections include competitive primaries and general elections as well as races between pro-Israel champions and anti-Israel opponents. The 30 key races for the U.S.-Israel relationship include 4 Senate races and 26 House races with candidates endorsed on both sides of the aisle, including 17 Democrats and 13 Republicans.
“Our work at Pro-Israel America of helping elect pro-Israel candidates to Congress remains more critical than ever, as evidenced this past month when a few anti-Israel members of Congress forced House leadership to strip $1 billion for Israel’s Iron Dome defense system from the must-pass House government funding bill,” said PIA executive director Jeff Mendelsohn. “While the House ultimately approved a stand-alone Iron Dome supplemental funding bill by an overwhelming majority of 420-9 to provide Israel with $1 billion in supplementary funding to replenish the Iron Dome, we must make sure that these dangerous and purposeful political stunts from a small but vocal chorus of anti-Israel members are strongly condemned and never allowed to happen again.”
“That’s why today we have designated 30 ‘key races.’ These candidates, some of whom face vocal anti-Israel primary opponents, are running in some of the most competitive primary and general elections across the country in 2022. We look forward to bringing the power of the grassroots pro-Israel community to help all of them cross the victory line,” said Mendelsohn.
These key races include Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), who is running in a competitive primary, and 3 senators who will be running in competitive general elections: Senators Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Marco Rubio (R-FL).
These key races also include 11 members running in competitive or potentially competitive House primaries – Representatives Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Daniel Hernandez (D-AZ), John Katko (R-NY), Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL), Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Peter Meijer (R-MI), Kurt Schrader (D-OR), Dina Titus (D-NV) and Ritchie Torres (D-NY), and 15 representatives who will be running in expected competitive or potentially competitive general elections: Representatives Colin Allred (D-TX), Don Bacon (R-NE), Andy Barr (R-KY), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Jared Golden (D-ME), Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Young Kim (R-CA), Elaine Luria (D-VA), Michael McCaul (R-TX), Stephanie Murphy (D-FL), Haley Stevens (D-MI), Fred Upton (R-MI). and Susan Wild (D-PA).
Pro-Israel America’s 170,000 and growing grassroots membership base proved during the 2020 election cycle that support for the U.S.-Israel relationship continues to run deep in both parties and makes for good politics as well as good policy. Pro-Israel America helped elect 70 pro-Israel members of Congress in 2020 – including a nearly 90 percent success rate in its 2020 list of “key races” – and raised over $3 million for candidates. Just last month, Pro-Israel America helped propel Democrat Shontel Brown’s victory in the very competitive OH-11 primary.
