MARCH 7, 2021, WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pro-Israel America (PIA) and Pro-Israel America PAC announced new endorsements for eight pro-Israel candidates – five Democrats and three Republicans. Pro-Israel America endorsed Detroit City Clerk Janice Winfrey, who will be running against Rep. Rashida Tlaib, one of the most anti-Israel voices in Congress, in Michigan’s newly drawn 12th district.
“Pro-Israel America is working to ensure that the 118th Congress reflects broad, bipartisan support for the U.S.-Israel relationship. With primary season in full tilt, today we are announcing eight new candidate endorsements for the 2022 midterm election cycle, including promising new voices like Janice Winfrey, who has the opportunity to defeat one of the most vocal anti-Israel voices in Congress Rep. Rashida Tlaib in the newly drawn Michigan 12th District. Pro-Israel America is also supporting Steve Irwin and Morgan McGarvey, both of whom are facing races against challengers aligned with the anti-Israel Justice Democrats organization,” said PIA executive director Jeff Mendelsohn. “We will continue to bring the power of the pro-Israel grassroots community to help these fresh candidates and proven leaders in Congress who support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship fight and win in their competitive races.”
Pro-Israel America endorsed eight House candidates, including Rep. Bill Huizenga (R)(MI-04), Steve Irwin (D) (PA-18), Kentucky State Senator Morgan McGarvey (D) (KY-03), Rob Menendez Jr. (D) (NJ-08), Rep. Chris Smith (R)(NJ-04), Rep. Pete Stauber (R) (MN-08), Chicago Alderman Gilbert Villegas (D)(IL-03), and Clerk Janice Winfrey (D) (MI-12). Janice Winfrey will be listed as a key race, given her upcoming highly competitive primary, taking on Rep. Rashida Tlaib, one of the most anti-Israel voices in congress. Steve Irwin, Morgan McGarvey, and Gilbert Villegas will also be listed as key races with expected competitive primaries in the coming months.
Pro-Israel America’s 170,000 grassroots membership base proved during the 2020 election cycle that support for the U.S.-Israel relationship continues to run deep in both parties and makes for good politics as well as good policy. Pro-Israel America helped elect 70 pro-Israel members of Congress in 2020 including 39 Democrats and 31 Republicans, and in 2021 supported pro-Israel Democrat Shontel Brown in coming from behind to win the OH-11 primary and election. In total, Pro-Israel America has raised over $6 million for pro-Israel candidates.
