WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Pro-Israel America (PIA), a grassroots organization dedicated to electing pro-Israel members of Congress, reported that it has raised over $2 million for candidates in the 2020 election cycle, meeting its first-cycle goal in contributions. 81% of donations to candidates and PIA from grassroots pro-Israel activists were under $200.
“Pro-Israel America launched to transform pro-Israel politics. Our first goal was to raise $2 million for candidates in the 2020 election cycle and we are proud to have surpassed all expectations, raising these funds well in advance of November, a little over a year after our launch,” said Jeff Mendelsohn, Executive Director of Pro-Israel America. “This important milestone has proven the effectiveness of grassroots activism in the pro-Israel community and we thank our over 150,000 and growing member base who have helped us reach this goal.
This achievement clearly demonstrates that the American public understands the importance of the U.S.-Israel relationship. With these contributions, grassroots donors from all across the country, on both sides of the aisle, send a strong message about the necessity of not only maintaining but strengthening the dynamic bond between the United States and Israel.”
Since its launch in March 2019, Pro-Israel America has endorsed fifty-two congressional candidates who support and promote the U.S.-Israel relationship: 21 Republicans and 31 Democrats, illustrating the true bi-partisan nature of the group’s work. Pro-Israel America has also helped a number of these candidates outraise their opponents and cross the finish line in competitive primary races, including significant victories for Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio), for whom PIA raised over $83,000 and Kay Granger (R-Texas), for whom PIA raised over $42,000. 35 of PIA’s endorsed candidates have won their primaries and the group expects more victories throughout the rest of the summer.
“All eyes are now on Minnesota’s fifth district, where Democrat Antone Melton-Meaux is running against freshman Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in the Democratic primary” said Pro-Israel America Board Chair Jonathan Missner.
“Congresswoman Omar has made divisive antisemitic comments and has continuously worked against advancing the U.S.-Israel alliance, but our efforts prove that many of her constituents are looking for a candidate that reflects their values. And that someone is Antone Melton-Meaux.” To date, PIA has raised $397,000 for Mr. Meaux.
