April 16, 2021 (Washington, DC) — Jeff Mendelsohn, Executive Director of Pro-Israel America, issued the following statement in response to Rep. Betty McCollum’s newly introduced anti-Israel bill:
“Representative Betty McCollum’s latest anti-Israel bill, which aims to add unnecessary restrictions on U.S. aid to Israel, is another senseless proposal in the Congresswoman’s long history of seeking to undermine Israel’s legitimacy and limit its ability to defend itself.
Fortunately, the vast majority of members from both parties in Congress understand that maintaining U.S. security assistance to Israel without additional conditions remains critical to both of our country’s strategic interests, deterring major war and making peace more likely. That’s why less than five years ago in 2016, Congress overwhelmingly endorsed President Obama’s 10-year MOU commitment of U.S. security assistance to Israel without unnecessary political conditions and restrictions.
U.S. security assistance to Israel has allowed Israel to defend itself by itself. The aid the U.S. sends to Israel can only be used for security and legitimate self-defense and purchases are already reviewed by the U.S. government.”
Pro-Israel America strongly condemns Rep. McCollum’s anti-Israel bill, which would harm both of our countries’ national interests. We call upon members of Congress to oppose any attempts to politicize our strategic funding alliance with Israel and to denounce this dangerous proposal.”
